The children (and staff) had a brilliant time today dressing up and being visited by a Victorian style schoolteacher, Miss Sharp (Ma'am). It was very interesting to experience what life would have been like for children in a Victorian school, using slate boards, pots of ink and an abacus to complete our work carefully and neatly. The children were all given an individual name of a child that was really alive during the Victorian period.
Furthermore, we got to see what the consequences and rewards were for children who did and did not follow the school rules. We saw things such as 'clumsy' and 'gossip' labels, as well as finger stocks for the fidgets and the cane for particularly naughty children. Other children were rewarded with certificates and a medal for their efforts, and all children received a bookmark for their hard work today.
I am sure it is an experience that will never be forgotten.
